Adelaide’s Inclusive Playgrounds: An Adelaide Mum’s Review of Marshmallow Playground

Updated: Mar 16

Finding a playground that truly supports every child’s needs can be a challenge. As a mum who’s been through the search, I’m here to share my honest review of Marshmallow Play Space—an inclusive outdoor playground in Adelaide.

A Safe and Family-Friendly Outdoor Playground

Marshmallow Play Space is designed with families in mind. Its fully fenced layout offers a secure area where children can play freely, while parents can enjoy a little peace of mind knowing their little ones are not making a run for it! IYKYK.

What Sets It Apart?

At Inclusive Kids Guide, we have particular criteria in mind when reviewing any playground. Here’s how Marshmallow Play Space stacks up:

  • Fully Fenced: The entire play area is securely enclosed, ensuring your child can explore without wandering off.

  • Adequate Parking: While parking is available, note that it’s on a main road. This might pose a challenge during peak times.

  • Onsite Toilets: Convenient toilet facilities are located just outside the fenced area, so you have everything you need without extra hassle.

  • Accessible Parking & Toilets: I have not personally seen any parking that I would call "accessible" however am happy to be corrected.

  • Ample Shade: The huge Moreton Bay Fig tree provides generous shade, making the playground a comfortable retreat on those hot Adelaide days.

  • Activities for Most Abilities: With seasonal water play and various natural features, this playground offers activities that cater to a range of abilities. We would say a good one for kids from 2-10 years.

  • Lack of Paving: One thing to note is the limited concrete paths. This might affect accessibility for families who rely on wheelchairs or mobility aids.

Tips for a Smooth Visit

  • Plan Ahead: Given that parking is on a main road, it might be best to visit during off-peak times.

  • Bring Extra Clothes: With the water play area in action, it’s a good idea to pack a change of clothes.

  • Prepare for Natural Terrain: The playground’s natural setting is a plus for imaginative play, but be mindful of the uneven surfaces if accessibility is a concern.

Why I'd Recommend Marshmallow Play Space

While Marshmallow Play Space doesn't meet all areas of our core criteria for an inclusive playground, its secure, has onsite toilets, very close to the barrier fencing and the large amounts of green space make it a strong choice for families who are not bother by the lack of parking or sturdy paths.
